A lot of ownership information (rumors?) has been flying around twitter lately. I haven’t invested much time or energy into this information. We have been fed a lot of information over the course of the past few years. I have learned that nothing is official until its official. Deep huh?
It does appear that the ownership saga may be coming to an end before the end of 2011. I can’t even remember back to when we first got the news about the bankruptcy filing. It was that long ago. It will be a relief once this is all done. Then we can do what the other 29 teams fans do, enjoy the game and our team!
The “mystery” ownership group is headed by former Sharks CEO (and current board member) Greg Jamison. From what I understand, he was responsible for turning the Sharks around and growing the sport in San Jose. Twitter news said him and Bettman where to be in Phoenix Monday but that ended up not happening. I thought I read they were supposed to be here Wednesday but I do not recall seeing anything more on twitter about this.
I do remember seeing that Ice Edge might be willing to join Jamison. I am not sure how I feel about this. I was never all that impressed with the Ice Edge group. I also am not impressed with Reinsdorf. But overall, I just want to see someone buy the team. I was talking to a friend about the seven year sale/out clause. I said, if someone who actually wants the team to succeed and do well can’t get it turned around, or at least on the right track, then a team doesn’t really belong here. We do need to have a real attempt at it though. The team has been set up for failure since day one. Ok, maybe not day one but the Moyes era was definitely not conducive to running a winning team/franchise.
In other news… I have purchased a 12-game season ticket pack. I will definitely be at more than 12 games but the person I got tickets with has a different schedule than me so this was the easiest pack for us to get. There are other games I will attend with a friend that has two seats. I am so excited. The season needs to get here already! The must see game? The Flyers. I will be there and boo-ing Bryz. Even though I love the Flyers. I am conflicted. But the Coyotes definitely deserve my support more! I also need to attend opening night and Boo when ever Winnipeg is on the ice/touches the puck/whatever. I didn’t get tickets in my pack for that since the NHL BOWED to Canadian tv and the game starts at 4pm. Yah, 4 pm start time… thanks a lot NHL. The Canadians should have to stay up. They don’t change the east coast games, when they are three hours a head, to come on when the west coast gets home from work so why should we have to change our times? It’s BS. But I digress… opening night I will go with my friend that has two seats. Can’t wait to see you all there!
