Another meeting, another 22-17 win by the Bills over the Jets. A game most had written down as a sure Jets win instead was 39:13 minute game of keep away for the Bills that resulted in a win. This also puts the cap on a crazy 8-8 season, the second non-losing season back to back in almost a decade. I’m going to keep my thoughts a little shorter, because we have A TON of tweet bag things to get to. Way to finish strong folks! Anyways, on to my thoughts:
- Great Offensive Line Swan Song – Looking at that time of possession for Buffalo, coupled with the clean pockets Tyrod had for the most part passing, I think the 2015 season ended on quite a high note for the o-line. While it wasn’t perfect, the ability of Incognito and Wood to pull, coupled with the usage of 6 and 7 person OL fronts was quite effective in bludgeoning the Jets defense early with Karlos and Gilly. Late, it was a combination of Tyrod scrambling and efficient runs by Gillislee and Boobie D. Glenn and Incognito need to be top priority in terms of impending Bills FAs to make sure this building block of a Roman offense can build up from this year.
- Sammy Gets 1,000 Yards – Sammy got his first 1,000 yard season in impressive fashion, catching 11 receptions for 136 yards. More than the 15 targets, more than his renaissance after week 9, I was most impressed that Sammy broke Revis.
Darrelle Revis refused to answer questions after the game. I expected better from him.

As many, notably Rob Quinn (@Rquinn619) have said – the targets post Sammy-Coach_Call_Out.Rant have been plentiful and he’s taken advantage of them. Getting 1,047 yards was quite the feat given his injuries as well. I’m a weirdo, so I had to look up to make sure this season was as close to one of Stevie’s years and sure enough it was (1,046 yards for SJ13) but with 19 less receptions. Going into the 2016 season that’s gotta go up at least 25+ receptions to give them a shot at the playoffs. - Tyrod – I’ll go more in depth later this week on this point, but Tyrod Taylor as a first-year starter amassed 3,035 Yards, 20 Touchdowns and 6 picks passing with another 400 or so yards and 4 touchdowns rushing. That is not bad at all for a guy that was billed as “game manager” as his job requirement to supplement the vaunted Ryan Defense. As I mentioned on Twitter during the game after the throw-back attempt from Boobie Dixon(!?!) to Tyrod – remember crazy plays like those where Taylor is essentially used as a gadget guy when the criticisms of “he needs to do more in pocket” start to emerge. Tyrod does need to continue his ascent, however, plays that put him in harms with with little protection like that cannot become the bread and butter just because “he’s fast”. Tyrod also got those stats on 67 less attempts in as many games as his predecessor, Kyle Orton (3,018 yards, 18 TDs, 10 Ints).
And now, our final Tweet-Bag of the season. It’s been fun doing these and I hope you guys have enjoyed reading them as well!
@RDotDeuce the fans boo’d Mario. So, did the #Bills win?
— Mike McKenzie (@mack10zie) January 3, 2016
//platform.twitter.com/widgets.jsYes, they did – and Mario also left the game as tied for the team lead in sacks. Imagine if he tried! *slaps knee*
@RDotDeuce @BuffaloWins why do we even try?
— brian (@AdmiraltyPirate) January 3, 2016

Brian, I think we try because we care. This season’s been rough, but at the end of the day we’re all still fans of the same team and want them to do well. If we didn’t, I don’t think most people would willingly follow a team that they thought would never win a game. That’d be silly. But it’s tough – just gotta remember it’s still just a game at the end of it.
@RDotDeuce @BuffaloWins Wll Bills keep Carpenter and bring in a XP specialist?
— Aaron DePonceau (@internetguy87) January 3, 2016
//platform.twitter.com/widgets.jsI think that would be something, that if they rolled out, would lead me to run into the woods screaming. Someone mentioned this on twitter, but I think this new rule might have killed Carpenter’s career at this rate.
@RDotDeuce @BuffaloWins Now what?
— Michael (@manecci) January 3, 2016
//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js
I’ll borrow a line from one of my favorite plays, Hamlet – “the rest is silence”. What has to happen now will not be seen during a press conference or an interview at the combine or even a loose quote at the Big Tree. Rex and his staff need to figure out what went wrong with the defense and fix it prior to next year.
Rex and Doug Whaley need to chat about what Rex needs to make the defense work in FA or draft and the team itself needs to become a less fractured unit. I do know that won’t happen with folks anonymously sniping teammates. I know that won’t happen if they’re still blaming one player on the failure. And I definitely know if they stay pat and claim that’s all they needed to do to fix I will not buy it until I see action and success on field.
@RDotDeuce @BuffaloWins Whose will wibnst he Probe Owl this season>???
— Plaun Plovecho (@PlaunPlovecho) January 3, 2016
//platform.twitter.com/widgets.jsI think I get you and I’ve been there before with the auto-correct messing you up. I think this year it’ll be Carolina or Seattle vs Pittsburgh. Winner? I haven’t a clue – but I’m assuming an NFC win this year. Sorry for the lack of conviction!
@RDotDeuce @BuffaloWins Is karlos injury prone?
— Connor Manley (@ConnorManley202) January 3, 2016
//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js
At this point in his career I don’t think it’s fair to throw the label out yet. However, I would not trust him at this point to carry the load by himself. With Shady’s contract, my hope would be the two of them would run the rock with Gilly as the change of pace dude to keep Shady fresh. The way that Williams runs, his hard style may not allow him to be 100% a whole season. But if the Bills can fix that right side up *just* a little more, I think the hits will be minimized for all. Note that your question is also a fair one to ask about John Miller as well.
@RDotDeuce is EJ your first half MVP?
— Mike McKenzie (@mack10zie) January 3, 2016
//platform.twitter.com/widgets.jsWith his #Elite hard count? No Doubt.
@RDotDeuce I haven’t watched an entire Bills game since they lost to the Pats on MNF, am I a bad person?
— BB-L8 (@TheKrausHouse) January 3, 2016
//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js
Nope. My plan had been to watch this one on delay, but my wife had to meet with someone for lunch, so here we are. No judgment, all love. We all gotta deal with the season when it goes south how we can.
@RDotDeuce @BuffaloWins Need: RT, LB, DE, 0 tech DT, WR. Which are FA and which are draft targets, ideally?
— Rich Quodomine (@RDQ_geography) January 3, 2016
//platform.twitter.com/widgets.jsFor me I’d say get the best you could in draft and let FA be a garnish – but I don’t think that’s how Rex and Doug will think,. For the DE, 5 Technique and linebacker, I think the importance of getting a guy at DL and LB that knows Rex’s defense will be essential to him. So assume that Snacks Harrison and Demario Davis (wait for the “De-Mario that buys in” jokes) for those spots will be heavily targeted. For WR, I think an inexpensive FA won’t have the bang for buck as much as a quality draftee would. And for pass rusher I’d also say the same.
@RDotDeuce can you please include a vine of carpenter after the missed PAT in your post game?
— Mike McKenzie (@mack10zie) January 3, 2016
//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js
Absolutely.
