One Fan(n)'s Opinion by @rdotdeuce - Things to Do Til the Action Returns, Boss

As we start to enter into this quiet period of Bills and Sabres-dom, we’re making some fun changes and taking some chances here at Buffalo Wins. In addition to the regular coverage of the teams and any of the issues that may arise, we’re also going to be make a bit of a blogging “stand” so to speak. With all the craziness of the One Bills Drive media policy, etc, etc. it got me to thinking about how we cover the Bills – and Buffalo teams in general. So, unless there’s a post-worthy occurrence, we’re not going to make one up.

We’re not TBN. We’re not WIVB. We’re a blog focused on getting you guys our opinions on the things that matter – and as the face that runs the place, we’re going to give you quality content without having me as the editor breathe down the staff’s necks for #content.

That doesn’t mean you still won’t be reading some quality stuff during this down time.  While that may mean less Bills/Sabres content during dead periods, that won’t mean lack of quality stuff for you, the reader to enjoy. Here are the five things we’re focused on this summer:

1. Get Excited for NHL Draft Coverage – Our staff will be dropping knowledge on the players, teams, trades and things you need to know before the Sabres make their picks. We have some great writers who are far more well-versed in the draft and free agency in the NHL and they’ll be dropping knowledge on us all as we get closer to those events. In the interim, check out Luke’s great article series on the 10 year anniversary of the Sabres run.  Evan did a great job breaking down FAs/RFAs/Assets to watch in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. And we’ll also dive deep post-signings into the player’s time at their former teams. You wanna know it – we’ll tell it to you!

2. BW @ The Movies – As you’ve seen with Stephie’s review of Civil War, we’re getting into the movie business! You’ll be seeing more reviews from a few of us, as well as a few podcasts down the road on the bigger events that occur. Which leads us to….

3. New Staff and New #Content – In addition to the newer staff you’ve read, we have a few others that are due to debut, as well as projects such as the 20 questions series Joe spearheaded. We want the blog to be eclectic and bringing these folks in will help in my mission to differentiate who are as a blog.

4. Get Your Ears ready for the Bwins Podcast – Starting at the end of June, we’re going to have podcasts dropping on Bills happenings, nerdom, geekdom and anything really we wanna do. In fact, if you have suggestions, feel free to tweet me (@Rdotdeuce). We’ll have an email in time, but for now we’ll stick with the tweets. They’ll be typically 40 minutes or so, but if there’s a big issue, I apologize in advance for any “war and peace” length tomes we drop on y’all.

Finally, you’ll also see out of me some “deeper” dives into fandom and life – via my son – later in the summer. In particular, how I’m dealing with my four year old potentially becoming a Steelers fan here in Pittsburgh, his favorite toys and their revelations to me as a comic book fan and all the craziness these things entail.

Obviously, I’ll also chime in with wrestling still as well – in particular my favorite event of the summer – the G-1 Climax, a round robin tournament done by the fine folks at New Japan Pro Wrestling. While I doubt I’ll convert folks, I want to give fans insight into why I love that tournament and how you can watch.

Ultimately, at the heart of this we’re all Buffalo fans – but we also have (and may share) other interests and my goal was to highlight those with our blog. I hope you all enjoy this voyage we’re embarking on. I know we are.
