Atlanta Falcons head coach Mike Smith watches from the sideline in the first half of their NFL football game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Atlanta

//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js Wow, what a weekend! Not even Monday can take away the feeling I had over the last few days. It truly was something special. Now that the All Star Game has come and gone there’s still one remaining question; how do you top that?   I’ve been watching All Star Games for as long as I can remember. Sure, while growing up I thought it was great, but the novelty of it wore off after a while. It was the same thing every year and just became routine after a while. So when a 3 on 3 tournament was announced for the game over the regular 5 on 5 format I was immediately thrilled that the league a) listened to it’s fans, and b) actually changed the all star game. This new novelty was a very welcomed change for everyone, and fans really loved it and so did I. It was fun, exciting, and it changed the pace of this yearly event.  The change of pace brought more exciting plays and superb goaltending. And I can’t complement the goaltending enough.  I mean how does a 3 on 3 “championship” game end in a 1-0 score?

And of course the people’s All Star, John Scott. Scott was adored by fans and what made even more special was he was adored by the players. Everyone wanted to meet John and support him in the event. Just to see an underdog come out on top for once was truly rewarding. Not to mention how he roasted Jeremy Roenick on national television. I mean that was literally like 700000 fire emojis. His story could not have been written any better.

So back to my original question of how do you actually top this year’s All Star Game? Honestly, you don’t. My guess is that next year the fan voting will be much more controlled. Only selected all star’s will have the chance to be voted captain, and a story like Scott’s won’t ever be seen again. If you got a chance to sit down and watch the 2016 NHL All Star Game remember it. Don’t expect to see another all star game as good as this one for a long time, and I mean a long time. It truly was something special.
