The Red Sox had reached the .500 mark and were coming off of two great pitching performances, things were looking up. Then came the extra inning loss to the Orioles and the implosion by Dice-K and Wake last night. Boston has been playing some of the worst teams in the American League so the winning streak, so we do not really know how the team will play against the likes of the Yankees or Rays. We are now into May and there are some major questions about the defense, starting pitching. run production, and the bullpen. For every player that gives you reason to be confident there are two players that make you scratch your head. Before this season I declared the Red Sox rotation to be the best in baseball. I still think they have the talent to become that, but right now there are some big question marks. Can Dice-K pitch like he did in Pawtucket? Is Beckett going to become an ace again? What is Tito going to do with Wake?
The team needs Josh Beckett to shut down the O’s today as they enter into a week of tough opponents that includes the Angels and Yankees. This week is going to be a big challenge for the Red Sox and they need to rise to the occasion or it is going to be a very long season.
