That's the Spanish-language version of this… which I thought would be appropriate as Team USA gets ready to face Los AlemanesThe Germans at 8 am. I'm as unafraid of these Germans as Mr. Burns is of those. Dirk Nowitzki and Chris Kaman have led this vaunted squad to a 1-3 record. 'Oooh, the Germans' indeed.
Speaking of Kaman… ESPN's Chris Sheridan tells us that his father is angry that his son is playing for Germany.
…if LeRoy Kaman turns on the television in Grand Rapids, Mich., on Monday morning to watch his son Chris play basketball, he'll be cheering against him.
"My dad is not so thrilled," Kaman said. "My mom has always supported me, she's great. My dad is kind of negative about it. He's like: 'You're not German, you're an American citizen.'"
LeRoy needs to grab a hefeweizen and some bratwurst and chill the hell out. Hey buddy… your son didn't defect to WW2 Germany and join the SS… he took the one shot he had to go play in the Olympics and made the most of it. He sure as hell isn't going to play for Team USA… so what is he supposed to do? This is a classic case of misplaced patriotism. I'm all for the flag-waving and rah-rah stuff, LeRoy… but maybe you need to take a step back and take this for what it is: your son taking part in a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Maybe if more people took opportunities like this in life… they wouldn't be so uptight.
By the way… if you're looking for a refreshing beverage on a hot day… a cold hefeweizen poured over a little lemon wedge does the trick quite nicely. Another great German contribution to the world: Heidi Klum.
