Oooooh, We’re Halfway There, Oooh Oooh…

Oooooh, We're Halfway There, Oooh Oooh...

That’s right, we are halfway through the 2012 season and truly “livin on a prayer” since a prayer is about all we have left for getting to a bowl game at this point. By now almost everyone’s preseason predictions have completely fallen apart and we are left scrambling to make revisions and invent elaborate excuses to salvage whatever credibility we never really had in the first place. I’d like to take a quick timeout from all the QB controversy hoopla to examine where I stand on one of my boldest preseason predictions…my attempt to correctly guess all the locations of College Gameday this season. How have I done? Find out after the jump…

Friends, my crystal ball isn’t just cracked, turns out it is actually just one of those big frozen balls of airplane poop from Joe Dirt.

Oooooh, We're Halfway There, Oooh Oooh...I should be grossed out by this, but it just makes me want Cougar Country.

Here is how I have fared on my picks as of today:

Week One

  • My pick – Michigan vs Alabama
  • Gameday pick – Michigan vs. Alabama

So far, 100%! I’m a genius.

Week Two

  • My pick – UW @ LSU
  • Gameday pick – Florida @ Texas A&M

Whoops.

Week Three

  • My Pick – USC @ Stanford
  • Gameday pick – Florida @ Tennessee

Whoops again! Anyone else starting to sense an SEC/Florida bias here? I get the first ever SEC game at Kyle Field in week 2, but week 3 is clear evidence that ESPN is in the bag for the SEC.

Week Four

  • My pick – Michigan @ Notre Dame
  • Gameday pick – Clemson @ Florida State

The wheels have come off the bus. At this point I am exhibiting a lot of empty corpse body language with a mopey basset hound face.

Week Five

  • My pick – Oregon @ Wazzu
  • Gameday pick – Ohio St. @ Michigan St.

This pick is basically my “Colorado game”, if you will. A low point amongst low points. Basically a hole at the bottom of a well in a deep deep valley. I almost struck oil here.

Week Six

  • My pick – Georgia Tech @ Clemson
  • Gameday pick – Georgia @ South Carolina

And with this pick Bloguin has pulled the plug on our web site and Bridgeport Brewing has withdrawn their sponsorship of Humpdays with with Huddy. It doesn’t seem fair, but then again, this has gotten pretty bad.

Week Seven

  • My pick – The Red River Shootout (Duh!)
  • Gameday pick – Stanford @ Notre Dame

Ha, are you kidding me? At this point it is clear that the folks at Gameday are just f%$&ng with me. Seriously guys? At the time I made these picks this was as close to a lock as the schedule offered. Maybe I should not try this again. Ever.

Next week I have predicted Michigan St. @ Michigan and I gotta be honest, it looks pretty certain that I am not going to get that one either. With South Carolina at Florida and Kansas State at West Virginia, I’m as good as screwed. That’s seven straight wrong picks. I surrender!!!

So while this has been an exercise in futility, it wasn’t a total loss. As I was burning the midnight oil doing all the exhaustive research that goes into these picks, I came across some interesting information. We are one of only three Pac-12 teams that have yet to host College Gameday. I also learned that every SEC team has hosted it, and this means that Frickin Vanderbilt has hosted Gameday and we haven’t. For real. Anyway, our Pac-12 peers who have yet to host Gameday are Cal and… UW. Am I the only one that didn’t realize this? I am? Damn. Well, I did not know that. Now that I do, our campaign to get Gameday to Pullman takes on a whole new sense of urgency. We must absolutely host Gameday before the Dawgs do. This is what hiring Mike Leach and expanding our stadium and getting a sexy new equipment truck has all been about. WE CAN DO THIS!

So I think I owe you all an apology for publishing these picks in the first place, and I’d especially like to apologize to Huddy. Its so unfair that you have to pay for your Bridgeport IPA now because of my ineptitude. Sorry bro. Also, I really hope that the Cougar flag waving crew didn’t book their flights based on these picks.

Enjoy the second half of the season, folks, and GO COUGS!
