If you’ve spent any time at all this week reading about this Sunday’s match-up between the Minnesota Vikings and the Kansas City Chiefs, it’s easy to anticipate a Viking win. Minnesota is favored over Kansas City by only four points, but looking at the matchup I’d say that’s being conservative. I think there are five major reasons we can look for an explosive performance by the Vikings on Sunday.
- The obvious reason is one Viking’s fans are all too familiar with… losing their star running back. Jamaal Charles is out for the season with a torn ACL. Charles accounted for 40% of the Kansas City offense. With an unproven Charcandrick West only in his second year, the Chiefs are shaky in terms of running backs. QB Alex Smith has his work cut out for him to produce more action with their wide receivers.
- The Viking defense is going to have a hay-day with their offensive line. Alex Smith’s stats show he’s fairly “sack-prone” having been sacked 21 times already this year. With an opportunity like this I think Everson Griffen, Anthony Barr, and Eric Kendricks will have some impressive plays on Sunday.
- The Vikings are just coming back after their bye week, well-rested, and looking to make a little positive momentum. The Vikes have a 2-2 record so far this season in comparison to the Chief’s 1-4 record. The Chiefs are hungry for a win, but they are going to have a tough battle at TCF Bank Stadium.
- The fans have finally found the “VOLUME UP” button. Coach Zimmer has noticed. The defense has noticed. We have noticed. I know no outdoor stadium will ever be as loud as an indoor stadium, but the last couple of games, I think the fans have finally started to see what a difference it makes for the defense. Note I said, “DEFENSE”… when Teddy Bridgewater is at work, BE QUIET so the team can hear him.
- Adrian Peterson is on track for a record year and the rest of the offensive line is on the recovery. Mike Wallace, Charles Johnson, and Jarius Wright were all questionable earlier this week; but were recently changed to probable. This is going to give Norv Turner a nearly full arsenal of offensive options.
The Vikings clearly have the opportunity to seize the upper hand this Sunday, but as we know anything can happen on any given Sunday. The weather is forecasted to be a beautiful, sunny 63 degrees; so win or lose, we are guaranteed to have a glorious day. Come on out to Lot 37 to meet and tailgate with the Viking World Order and friends. Don’t forget to wear pink for Breast Cancer Awareness!
SKOL Vikes!
