Opposition Research: Purdue Q&A with Boiled Sports

When we’ve got matchups inside the Bloguin family, it means time to reach out and see what’s going on in there neck of the woods (in the case of Indiana whatever flat land you can see). So, this week we’re lucky to speak with the humorous and informative (allegedly) folks from Purdue site, Boiled Sports.

They’ve been friends of ours for a few years now and joined the Bloguin family earlier this year. With the Boilermakers making some noise on the offensive side of the ball, can they see an upset happening? Let’s take a look at what Boiled Sports has to say ahead of this matchup.

Don’t forget to follow them on Twitter @BoiledSports for the opposition side of Saturday’s contest too

(Thanks to Boilerdowd for the answers)

MadTownBadgers: Austin Appleby has taken over at QB, what has been the biggest difference between him and Danny Etling?

Boilerdowd: They both can throw the ball…but Appleby’s confidence, vocal leadership style and short memory are probably his greatest attributes at this point…If I have to pick just one, it’s his confidence.

MTB: Who should Badger fans be aware of outside of Austin Appleby on the Boilermakers offense?

BD: With Anthrop out, Akeem Hunt will get even more touches; both running the ball and as a receiver. His backup, Raheem Mostert is also a weapon that is used sparingly (on offense) due to fumbles…but both are very fast in space.

MTB: Defensively, Frankie Williams has been a star to date, what is his status for Saturday? If he can’t play what does it mean to the defense?

BD: It doesn’t look good right now for Williams who has been held out of practice due to headaches and will be re-evaluated later in the week.

He’s a big loss defensively and on STs…and now his backup on punt returns (Anthrop) is out as well… BUT, I’m not so sure that will even matter on Saturday.

If Williams is out, Feichter will surely have to come up in run support even more than usual…Gordon + Wisconsin’s line are a scary-good combo.

MTB: People were very uneasy, and dare I say somewhat hostile to Darrell Hazell just a few months ago, what is the feeling about him and the program’s future now?

BD: Those who were hostile were pretty far out in the fringe of the fanbase. But everyone wanted proof and signs of life from a seemingly-flatlined program in ’13.

If the season ended with just three wins, it’d be better than last year, but few Purdue fans would be pleased. 4 or 5 wins would be solid improvement (since so many players are returning next season).

Six wins would be a wild success at this point, especially with the mounting injuries.

He’s likable…but winning is what this fanbase really wants/needs to energize and unify it.

MTB: Finish the sentence: Purdue pulls off the upset on Saturday if…..

BD: None of Wisconsin’s top-3 running backs dress and the starting offensive line takes the afternoon off…

OR

Stave audibles into passing plays every other down.

MTB: Prediction and why.

BD: PAIN!!

Purdue has struggled against every team that decided to make running between the tackles a priority…Wisconsin will do that too…because they’re so damned good at it.

I’ll be shocked if two backs don’t have 150+ yard games for Bucky.
