Oregon Ducks Boast Top Female Athletes

As the school year inches to a close and spring sports approach playoffs, it’s easy for University of Oregon students and fans to reflect on the markers of this year’s success. The football team won the Fiesta Bowl, volleyball was runner-up at the national championships, and the women dominated cross country and indoor track and field for two more national championship titles. Of course, trophies and championships aren’t the only ways to measure this year’s triumphs. Several individual athletes are worthy of recognition and have played a major part in the Ducks’ success. In fact, the women of Oregon especially have come to national prominence, and it seems safe to say that after this year, the Ducks boast some of the greatest female athletes in the country.

Whether it’s on the court, the track, or the field, Oregon has a variety of talent. In fact, the Pac-12 conference as a whole tends to be a destination for premier collegiate competition in women’s sports. While Oregon’s teams have climbed to the top this year, a handful of individuals have stood out – and the attention has been national. In just the last week, three lady Ducks have represented the green and yellow on top national recognition lists.

In honor of the year coming to a close, their current accolades, and Mother’s Day (because what makes a mother prouder than a successful daughter), here’s a quick look at the top three female athletes at the University of Oregon:

Jessica Moore

Jordan Hasay

Hasay is the most decorated athlete in Oregon school history. She’s a 15-time All American (I didn’t know that was possible either), 2-time NCAA champion, 3-time Pac-12 Athlete of the Year, and another two paragraphs worth of accolades. This year, she led the women on the hunt for the Triple Crown and has already seen back-to-back national championships in cross country and indoor track and field. Right now Hasay’s in Los Angeles for the Pac-12 Track and Field Championships, determined to leave one last mark on Hayward history.

Liz Brenner

Brenner is known as a multi-sport athlete at the University of Oregon and is currently a finalist for the Sports Illustrated Collegiate Athlete of the Year. Only a month ago, the sophomore was a finalist for the Sullivan Award – a national award for the top amateur athlete in the U.S. This year after the volleyball team’s run, Brenner was named an All-American before suiting up for basketball. This spring, she’s out at Hayward for track and field. Did I mention she played softball last year? Yes, Brenner can do it all.
