It might seem like all is quiet for the OregonDuck’s football team at the moment while the season is over, however, behind the scenes the coaching staff are searching for the next superstars to make the 2017 season the best yet for the team.
One such footballer is four star Canadian running back Chuba Hubbard, who the Ducks and running back coach Gary Campbell have firmly set their eyes on for the class of 2017 as a defensive running back. But Hubbard isn’t just an exceptional footballer, the 6-foot-1, 190lb teenager is also a star sprinter.
Hubbard has recorded a 100-meter dash in just 10.55, a time that earned the runner, who is a three-time national champion for his age group, fourth in the World Youth Championships. It’s thought that Hubbard can also complete the 40-meter dash in an impressive 4.38 seconds.
With this record it’s little wonder that Hubbard is receiving so many football scholarships. In fact, colleges including Auburn, Colorado, Colorado State, Georgia, Miami (Fla), North Carolina, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Tennessee and Texas A&M have all reportedly sent the teenager an offer too.
It’s also likely, with such a running record, that Hubbard will receive plenty of scholarships for track and field too so that will come in to consideration for the teen in his final choice.
However, it seems that the Ducks might have a slight advantage in tempting Hubbard to the team as the player has wanted to play for the school since he was young.
“I’ve been waiting a long time for this offer,” said Hubbard in an interview. “If you told me two months ago I was going to get an offer from Oregon, I wouldn’t have believed you. It’s a school I’ve always loved since I was young – a place I dreamed of going to.”
Hubbard even announced his excitement in a Twitter post revealing that the offer, which was his 16th, was a “dream come true”.
If Hubbard does join the Ducks, he’ll be choosing a team that has an impressive roster of alumni including Mark Asper (New England Patriots), LeGarrette Blount (New England Patriots), Patrick Chung (New England Patriots), Will Tukuafu (Seattle Seahawks), T.J. Ward (Denver Broncos) and Darrion Weems (Denver Broncos). These Oregon Duck graduates all now play for one of the top five most backed teams in the NFL 2015/16 Super Bowl, teams which Hubbard will no doubt be keen to join in a few years’ time.
Although some are hesitant for Hubbard to join the Ducks due to his Canadian football background, where certain rules are different in comparison to American Football, it’s clear with Hubbard’s record and enthusiasm that he would be a top asset next season.
After-all, who wouldn’t want a player who finished his 2015 season with 40 TDs on 173 attempts and who generated 3,213 rushing yards?
