Royce Freeman concluded his phenomenal high school career with a San Diego section record 7606 yards as the Imperial Valley fell 56-12 in the semi-finals to powerhouse St. Augustine. Freeman had 20 carries for 168 yards in the loss as Tigers finished 11-1.
Freeman averaged 11.79 yards a carry in his four years with the varsity, with an astounding 111 rushing touchdowns. He told reporter Jonathan Dale of the Imperial Valley Press, “This is the best season we ever had as a team. It’s the best team we’ve ever had and I’m just very proud.”
Royce rolls: Army All-American and Oregon commit Royce Freeman led the Imperial Valley Tigers to a best-ever 11-1 record, pounding opponents for over 7600 yards and 111 touchdowns in his high school career, 11.79 yards a carry.
Freeman will play in the Army All-American game this January, one of seven Duck commits selected for All-American games, all nationally televised in January:

Morgan Mahalak led his 12-0 Marin Wildcats to a 48-20 semi-final victory over Analy Saturday in the Northern California Section playoffs. Mahalak was 23-32 passing for 293 yards and 4 TDs, 1 int and 10 for 121 rushing with 1 td. Named to the UnderArmour All-America team this weekend, the 6-3, 195-lb. dual-threat has 19 tds in his last four games, 14 through the air and 5 on the ground.

The Wildcat senior gets the ball out quickly and delivers strikes to all levels of the defense as he has all season, but what’s additionally impressive is how effective he is running the zone-read, a shifty, athletic open-field runner who is decisive on the keep, gets downfield and runs with authority. He delivers a beautiful ball as always, displaying a quick release and the ability to find open targets, very comfortable commanding his offense after a full season as a starter.
Jalen Brown and the Mountain Pointe Pride completed an undefeated state champion season with a 49-14 victory over Hamilton, Tyler Johnstone’s and Reggie Daniel’s prep alma mater. Doubled-covered all game, Brown grabbed a 47-yard touchdown pass in the win, on a halfback option play.
Hamilton has been to the state final 11 times, including two state championships each for Johnstone and Daniels, 29-1 in Johnstone’s two years on the varsity. For Brown, the Army All-American finishes his senior year with 50 catches for 1178 yards and 18 tds, a gaudy 23.56 yards a catch. Senior highlights from all 12 games are available HERE.
