Oregon football recruiting: Kansas linebacker Jimmie Swain top of the Christmas wish list for Ducks

Oregon coaches are out on the recruiting trail this week, and tonight Mark Helfrich and the defensive staff made a pivotal home visit, to Olathe, Kansas linebacker Jimmie Swain, 6-3, 225.

Swain is a top Oregon target, a mobile, physical linebacker who really fills the hole and ranges all over the field. He blitzes. He pursues. He’s a punishing, sure tackler and a playmaker, a terrific athlete who also sports a 3.2 G.P.A. He visited the Ducks on November 29th for the Civil War, but also has high interest in Texas A&M, recently getting a home visit from Kevin Sumlin after visiting College Station December 6th.

Having Ducks for dinner: Jimmie Swain and his family hosted the Oregon coaches last night, and a commitment from the promising linebacker would be a Griswold Family Christmas without the squirrel in the Christmas tree (wholehogsports.com photo).

Swain is explosive, with a 37″ vertical leap and a 4.51 40, elite physically and smart. He benches 295 and squats 405. On video he displays tremendous instincts and desire, with an assertive edge that has sometimes been lacking from the Duck linebackers this year.

Outside of a big defensive tackle, a physical linebacker who can captain a defense is the Ducks biggest need. Swain is a difference maker, one of the uncommitted players who could transform this year’s class from solid to complete. His senior highlight film can be found HERE.

A four-star recruit and Army All-American, Swain is mature and serious. He wants to major in business, and handles the attention with a lot of poise.
