Offensive tackle Sam Jones of the Littleton, Colorada Grizzlies is visiting Saturday when the Ducks take on Nicholls State. A 6-5, 275 pile-driver who’s rated 4 stars by ESPN and 3 by the other services, Jones is a strong, agile linemen who can pull and get upfield. He can lift 435 in the squat and benches 345, picked First Team 5A All-State by the Denver Post.

A Colorado powerhouse coached by Joe Johnson, the Grizzlies pound the ball behind a big offensive line and Jones is the fulcrum. By November 1st of last year tailback Steve Ray churned out 1213 yards, including 202 yards against Monte Vista and 261 against Douglas County, much of it behind his mobile, battering tackle.
Jones also made an unofficial visit during Oregon’s Spring Game so they have a very good chance of signing him. He’s an under-the-radar recruit who didn’t get his first offer until Colorado State offered in January. The Ducks have excelled for years in identifying and developing players like him from all over the West. Mark Asper was a 2-star guard from Idaho Falls.
On film he moves pretty well, dominating smaller competition. He’s more of a grappler in his technique, burly and up high. Think he’s more of a guard than a tackle, but someone Steve Greatwood could readily mold into a solid PAC-12 offensive lineman. Stays on blocks very well, controls his man with a big chest and strong arms, moves in the second level with reasonable athleticism.
Jones has offers from Arizona State, Cal, Washington and Colorado in the PAC-12. He’ll be joined on his recruiting visit by Braxton Berrios, a shifty receiver from North Carolina, and Arrion Springs, a 6-0, 195-lb. cornerback from Texas.
