Jake Fisher is practicing. This being the Ducks, no one will come out and say it, but he could be back in the lineup next Thursday night when the Ducks host Arizona at 7:30 on ESPN.
Stetzon Bair, 6-9, 290, has switched over from the defensive line, giving Steve Greatwood a raw tackle with the longest arms on the team. Who knows? At this point he’s an insurance policy and another body at practice.
The bye week should help the Ducks iron out communication on the offensive line, which has been challenged by all the changes in personnel.
It doesn’t help either that reserves Elijah George and Haniteli Lousi, an athletic guard, have also been injured in addition to the three most experienced tackles.
Arizona gets most of its pass rush from linebacker Scooby Wright, an active and physical player who has four sacks. The Wildcats aren’t particularly big up front; they have just six sacks as a team through four games, 15 tackles for loss. Cal burned them repeatedly with the long pass, gains of 80, 41 and 38 yards. They also reeled off running plays of 44 and 50 yards, both for touchdowns. It’s a defense, so far, that’s been susceptible to the big play.
Of course Rich Rodriguez and his staff have a bye week also. So it will be a battle of adjustments.
