He plays high school ball in South Bend, Indiana, but Notre Dame hasn’t offered him. Gehrig Dieter, a big, rangy receiver, is having a legendary high school season so far with 31 catches, 1158 yards, 37.4 yards a catch and 12 touchdowns in his first three games. 6-3, 205 with a reported 4.6 time in the 40, Dieter has baffled prep defenses while racking up games of 373, 338, and 447 yards. The last one set a national high school single-game record.
Curiously, Dieter’s offer list isn’t that long, considering his video game stats. He’s garner offers from schools like Toledo, Akron and Central Michigan, most of the MAC conference schools, but the only D-1 program to offer so far has been SMU. Oregon’s expressed some interest and is said to be close to offering. The question mark with Dieter is speed, but he plays physical and comes down with the ball, runs very well after the catch.
Dieter told USA Today, “I play with a chip on my shoulder,” Dieter said. “I always try to play physical. My greatest strengths are probably my hands and ability to run after the catch.”
Oregon is leading for a fast, physical receiver from Arizona who is also a standout prep cornerback (think Jeff Maehl and Kenjon Barner), D.J. Foster. Dieter’s story is an interesting one to follow, if only for the impressive numbers.
