Oregon Sports Gems

The diamonds of Oregon sports get ready to shine brighter than ever in the new Oregon Sports Hall of Fame.

Out of the shadows of a clouded past, you’ll see stars of every year join with the Class of 2015 being inducted at Multnomah Athletic Club, and together enter the new OHOF.

From appearances the new space will have a traditional hall configuration with an added bonus.

The walls of the museum hold doors for organizations currently active in Oregon sports. One moment you’ll read about Ron Finley, and next you’ll see the door for the State Games of Oregon.

On one wall you’ll see world wide fame of the the great Shannon MacMillan next to the door for the Portland Youth Soccer Association.

In a real-time juxtaposition of sports and real life. Visitors to the coming Oregon Sports Hall of Fame will have more than a museum experience.

During their tour they will see into the future of sports in Oregon.

From a listing of all Oregon Sports Hall of Fame Football players to Tualatin Valley Youth Football League, history is as heavy as the next game.

On one side you have players who gave themselves to the game and excelled in a hard nosed sport. On the other side are kids getting ready to see if they’ve got the same grit as the greats. And make no mistake, some of them will and they’ll mention a visit to the OHOF in their induction speech.

Have you thought of your list of diamonds shining in Oregon sports? Is LaMarcus Aldridge one of them? Clyde made it into the OHOF. He also took the Blazers to two finals in the time of Jordan.

Will Vernon Adams, Jr make the OHOF if he takes the Ducks past Stanford with more cartwheeling athleticism without fumbles or injuries, wins the PAC12 Championship with a late kickoff return, wins the Rose Bowl on a hook and ladder worthy of Boise State vs Oklahoma, then brings home the biggest of them all?

Museums are full of the heroics of great men in monumental times, but sports museums actually give credit to the people doing the heroics, not overseeing.

Vernon Adams, Jr. and Oregon Duck football have had it hard this year. Doubters call it the end of a short dynasty with Adams as the fall guy.

Except he’s not falling fast enough. In fact he got back up. He showed what made him special at one school makes him special at Oregon.

Will he be Oregon Sports Hall of Fame special? We’ll know by Sunday.
