Oregonians Are Turning To Weight Loss Surgery,But Is It Worth The Risk?

weight lossWeightloss surgery  is a major life decision and it doesn’t come lightly. Often it’s with a doctor’s recommendation that their patients are good candidates.

There are now many options to weight loss surgery. In the past, most of us have only heard of “Gastric Bypass”, ( in layman’s terms) ” Stomach Stapling”, or “Gastric Banding”.With the increase in Obesity related illnesses, the need for additional  non invasive options has also risen.

Have you heard of POSE? (Primary Obesity Surgery, Endolumenal) No, I haven’t either. But it’s now on the list of weight loss options. It’s offered to patients that aren’t in the Obese category. One can be over weight,as little as 20 lbs.Is this a good option to be offered? Doesn’t this mean we give up on being committed to exercising and healthy eating?

Like all surgeries, this new procedure has it’s pros and cons. It is yet to be preformed here locally, it’s still under review.

Before considering any surgery, look into the lifestyle changes that would make the biggest impact.Healthy eating and exercise.Obviously it’s not easy, but it’s very possible. It has the biggest results, that last a life time.

Every day, thousands of Oregonians are saving their own lives by doing the work. It’s never too late to make those changes.
