Oscar Taveras Has Been Laid To Rest

The words aren’t coming any easier.

It’s been 3 days since the news of Oscar Taveras and his girlfriend Edilia Arvelo’s deaths broke. In some ways the initial shock has worn thinner. But in it’s absence, bewilderment.

TMZ is reporting that Taveras wasn’t intoxicated during the fatal car crash. He was just a young kid on a slick road driving a new car (probably) too fast.

Unlike the passing of Darryl Kile (blocked arteries) or Josh Hancock (drunk driving), there won’t be a moment where things coalesce and become, not welcome, but at least explainable. We wish Kile had been diagnosed sooner. We wish Hancock would have called a cab.

OT’s passing was freak and untimely. And the ‘what if’s’ will only grow bigger with time.

His and hers were two lives taken before expected. And it’s caused an outpouring of support in St. Louis and way, way beyond:

It was a sad Tuesday for Cardinals fans. It was an ever sadder day for the friends and family of these two young people.
