Oshay Dunmore may be the most versatile athlete to become an Oregon Duck since Jordan Kent. This morning, Dunmore faxed his commitment to coaches Chip Kelly and John Neal, and they’re delighted to have him.
He has a 3.8 grade average and a personal best of 15 feet in the pole vault. He’s a nationally-ranked high school decathlete, all-state at quarterback and safety for class 4A Newport High.
A future as bright as a liquid-metal helmet: Overcoming a troubled upbringing, Oshay Dunmore excels in every area of his life, including the defensive backfield.
As a junior, he rushed for 2,152 yards and 26 touchdowns, threw for 832 yards and seven touchdowns and was named the Oregon West defensive player of the year. Jerry Ulmer of oregonlive.com reported, “His decathlon score of 6,634 points last year ranked second in the nation among high school athletes. He has thrown the discus 166 feet, 7 inches (two state titles), cleared 15-0 in the pole vault, high-jumped 6-3 ½ and long-jumped 22-6 ¼. He has run the 100 meters in 11.63 seconds and the 400 in 51.64.”
As a football player, Dunmore is a smart, hard-hitting safety with good size at 6-2, 200. He’s wanted to be a Duck since sixth grade. Soon, a lot of sixth graders will want to be the next Oshay Dunmore.
