OTF: Morning Box Scores for 4/19/12

Stang
After a small day on Tuesday due to bad weather, yesterday was guaranteed to be a busy day and with 4 games overall in the Brewers Minor League system you can bet it was a busy day.  However, it was a blast being able to have games on the radio from 11 to nearly 11 thanks to an early game from Nashville and a double-header from Huntsville.  Oh, and Wisconsin and Brevard County got in on the action as well, so let’s dive in.  *Warning it’ll be small news and heavy on the box scores today.*

Nashville started the day off bright and early, but the game wasn’t exactly kind to the Sounds as they went down 7-5 to the Oklahoma City RedHawks and moved to just 4-9 on the year.  It was a case of letting the final score fool you though as this game wasn’t even close from the get go.  Wednesday afternoon also saw the return of Mark Rogers from suspension and it wasn’t exactly good.  He went just 3 innings and gave up 2 runs while striking out 3 OKC batters.  Brooks Conrad managed to hit his 1st home run and Logan Schafer went 2-for-4 in the loss.

Down in the Southern League it was a double-header between the Huntsville Stars and Tennessee Smokies in games two and three of a four game series.  Both games only go 7 innings per usual in the minor leagues.  It was a pitchers dream all day/night long as the two foes split the double-header with the Stars winning 2-1 in the opener and the Smokies blanking Huntsville 1-0 to cap off the night.

The Brewers weren’t the only ones to win in dramatic fashion as the Stars went into the bottom of the 7th tied 1-1.  That’s when Josh Prince went all hero by hitting a lead-off triple and after a strike out of the next batter he was plated by a Scooter Gennett walk-off single for the win.  Kyle Heckathorn had a great outing in the opener, going 6 innings, giving up just 5 hits and one run while striking out 3 but didn’t get the win as the game was tied 1-1 as he was done before the winning run crossed the plate.

In the nightcap the Smokies used a single 2nd inning run to beat Huntsville in a great pitchers duel.  Evan Anundsen went 5 innings and gave up just 3 hits and 1 run but struck out just 1 Smokies batter in the loss.  Three Smokies pitchers recored 7 stirkeouts and only gave up 4 hits in the shutout victory.

A night after Jed Bradley won our Player of the Day award Brevard County had the night off before heading on a roadtrip that includes a three game series with division leading Dunedin starting tomorrow.

Wisconsin caps off our look at the Brewers farm system and they moved a game over .500 to 7-6 on the strength of a 10-6 victory over the Burlington Bees to earn a series split.  The T-Rats used a huge 5 run first inning as well as a massive 4 run eighth inning to earn the victory.  Four Wisconsin batters had two or more RBI’s in the win, led by Chadwin Stangs 2 triple – 3RBI performance.  Carlos George, Gregory Hopkins, and Yadiel Rivera all had 2RBI’s a piece in the win.

Player of the Day: CF Chadwin Stang (Wisconsin Timber Rattlers): His 2-for-3 day isn’t that huge of a deal in and of itself, but both were for triples and he produced 3RBI’s in helping the T-Rats to victory and for that he’s our Player of the Day.
