OTF: Morning Box Scores for 4/24/12

conradIt’s been a few days off here in our On the Farm reporting and I apologize for that, but let’s get into the heat of things as they stand right now and not dwell on something that can’t be undone.  It was a banner day, but not in the good sense, as all four Minor League teams in the Brewers organization went down to defeat yesterday.

Brevard County put up ace Jed Bradley yesterday as the Manatees looked to put aside a four game losing streak against Clearwater.  Early season performances would lead you to believe Bradley would be the perfect candidate to break the streak, but it wasn’t too be last night.  He had his worst outing of the season as the ‘Tees went down 8-7 in a 12 inning thriller, which happened to be the closest game for any of the Brewers affiliates yesterday.  Bradley allowed 7 runs (4 earned) on 8 hits in his 5 innings of work.  He did manage to strike out 5 but also didn’t factor into the decision thanks to some good late innings hitting from the ‘Tees lineup.

After just three innings BC found themselves down 6-3 to the Threshers, but the offense rallied back and tied the game back up at 7-7 after 6 innings.  Both teams would go scoreless for the rest of regulation and it took 3 extra innings to decide the game in favor of Clearwater.  The loss pushed the ‘Tees below .500 for the first time all season.

Things at the triple-A Sounds are even worse at the moment as they have absolutely no answers and have run their losing streak to eight straight after going down 6-3 to the Omaha Storm Chasers.  Brooks Conrad has continued to be hot and one of the few bright spots in this awful start to the year for Nashville.  He went 3-4 and knocked in 2 of the 3 Sounds runs.

Back at the low-A level the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers things weren’t any better as they got taken apart in an 8-1 loss to the South Bend Silver Hawks yesterday to give the home standing Silver Hawks the series victory.  Only leadoff hitter Yadiel Rivera had more than one hit for the T-Rats in the loss, going 2-4, accounting for 33% of the hits for the team.  The Wisconsin pitchers allowed 14 hits while striking out just 6 South Bend batters.

The Huntsville Stars went down to defeat as well, losing 6-4 to the Jackson Generals in 10 innings.  Some great defense and timely pitching actually helped keep the score lower than it could’ve been as the Generals pounded out 14 hits in their win.  LF Lee Haydel was a great help for the Stars as he went 2-for-4 with a home run in the loss.  It was a loss that saw the Generals get 3 runs in the top of the tenth inning and after getting one run back in the bottom half the Stars couldn’t complete the full comeback.

Player of the Day: Brooks Conrad (Nashville Sounds): It’s crazy that I’m naming a player on a team that’s lost 8 straight games as our player of the day, but a 3-for-4 day with multiple RBI’s on a day where every team lost made that any easy choice for me.
