OTF: Morning Box Scores for 4/8/12

Stang
First off Happy Easter to everyone that believes, if not enjoy what should be a great Sunday for baseball.  I’ll be enjoying each myself.  On that note, let’s take a look back at what happened yesterday.

It was a great day for the Brew Crew and some of the minor league affiliates had amazing days as well.  It started off with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers who looked like they were going down to their 3rd straight defeat to the Cedar Rapids Kernels, but a wild comeback in the bottom of the 9th inning gave them a 7-6 win over the Kernels.

High-A Brevard County took their series with the rival Daytona Cubs as they won a narrow 1-0 victory.  The 2nd of the 2011 first round picks, Jed Bradley, made his first start and it was a successful one to say the least.

Huntsville (double-A) made it two straight in a 3-1 victory at the Jacksonville Suns.  Scooter Gennett went just 1-for-5 but it was his 1 hit that plated 2 runs to really seal the deal for the Stars.

The triple-A Nashville Sounds remain winless on the early season and have officially dropped their 1st series of the year as they lost 4-2 to the New Orleans Zephyrs.  Taylor Green gave the Sounds their first lead of the year when he hit a two run home run, but the pitching staff couldn’t hold on as they gave up 4 runs over the final 5 innings in the loss.

Player of the Day: For the first time this season we have co-players of the day.  The honors go to Jed Bradley for his awesome debut for the Manatees and Chadwin Stang of the Timber Rattlers.  Bradley pitched 6.1 innings, gave up just 3 hits, struck out 7, and allowed no runs in his first ever professional start.  Who could’ve had a performance good enough to earn co-POD honors?  Try Wisconsin’s Chadwin Stang.  The leadoff hitter went 3-for-5 with 2 doubles and a home run.  He had 2 RBI’s and scored 4 runs himself.  Now that’s production from your leadoff hitter if I’ve ever seen it.

It’s both players first honors of the season.  Starting next week you’ll see the POD replaced with the Player of the Week on Sunday’s.
