In yesterday’s Game Day Thread I commented on the new Senator’s Heritage jersey’s resemblance to a soccer jersey. In case you missed it, here’s what I said:
“My visual assessment? These jerseys look like a mash-up of this vintage Arsenal home jersey, Man City’s new away jersey, the new Doncaster Rovers kit and the 67’s classic duds. Ottawa’s Heritage jerseys are perfect. Here’s hoping they can make some jersey-tees based on this uniform so I never have to buy a rec soccer jersey again. Instant pre-order.“
The barberpole design we know and love is known as ‘hoops’ on the other side of the pond. This design graces some of the most beautiful soccer uniforms around, most notably Celtic and Queens Park Rangers. It’s no surprise this is instantly where my mind went when I saw the finished product.
I decided to see how viable my suggestion was and enlisted the help of a talented designer named Michael from Sports Logo Spot to see what could be done. Michael was quick to jump on the idea and I think the results speak for themselves. Be sure to have a look at his site for plenty of other visual stimuli to help get you through your day.
I realize it may seem sacrilegious to create hockey apparel not based on snowmobile culture or beer gear promos but how many of you wouldn’t mind throwing on this shirt for a day at the cottage or while watching your tots run around at the Hornet’s Nest?
