Yesterday was Super Bowl media day, so naturally all the buzz centered around questions that had no chance of being answered. NFL football is so cool, I guess.
1. Marshawn Lynch makes me appreciate Mitch Williams even more
I do not necessarily take issue with Seattle Seahawks running back Marshan Lynch and his approach to going through the motions with the media covering the Super Bowl. I do, however, think it is all a bit ridiculous on a number of fronts. Lynch comes off as a jerk, but the media continues to feed the troll so they sort of deserve it.
Thinking back to how Mitch Williams reportedly answered every question honestly after giving up the home run to Joe Carter, it sort of makes you appreciate the way Williams handled himself just a little more. At least, that’s what I take from it.
As for that big football game, be sure to follow Bloguin’s NFL site This Given Sunday and Foxboro Blog.
2. Speaking of Joe Carter…
… now that I am thinking about the Toronto Blue Jays [cringes], new Williamsport Crosscutters manager is Pat Borders. Borders won MVP honors in the 1992 World Series against the Atlanta Braves.
3. Oh, so we’re not going to eliminate the defensive shift now?
New Major League Baseball commissioner Rob Manfred created a buzz when he discussed the idea of removing or altering the rules regarding the defensive shift. Now he is back peddling. It did not take long to have the commissioner change his mind on an issue.
4. More praise for a Phillies prospect
We already know that Phillies third base prospect Maikel Franco has been opening some eyes in winter ball, but Roman Quinn is also receiving some praise. Jim Callis of MLB.com says Quinn is the fastest legitimate prospect in the game, which sounds pretty good. Despite a slow start, Callis believes Quinn’s career is about to really develop.
5. What’s up with Cuban prospect Yoan Moncada?
Yoan Moncada is the latest Cuban prospect that has baseball scouts buzzing. The 19-year old switch hitter has had interest from a number of teams, including the Phillies, but he has not been able to sign a contract just yet. As Phillies Nation notes, the process to sign a player out of Cuba is a little different now since Yaisel Puig came over. Even once the new process is completed (it can take up to six months), the competition may be fierce. Who knows how he will pan out, but I am willing to see the Phillies do whatever they can to find the right prospects from Cuba if it means building a winner. That is all I care about.
6. A new trade partner emerging for Papelbon?
The search is on for the mystery team that may be expressing at least some interest in Phillies closer Jonathan Papelbon. After talks died down with Milwaukee, perhaps there is still a chance Papelbon could be moved prior to spring training.
Go on… RT @jcrasnick: Hearing an undetermined AL team has talked to #phillies about a Jonathan Papelbon trade in the past few days.

7. The Phillies are on Snapchat now.
I tried to use Snapchat once when some college football conferences were getting on the trendy network. I didn’t get it, which means I am officially old. But if you’re using Snapchat, the Phillies are there for you.
