The Pac-12 regular season kicked off in style last weekend with the interstate rivalry games for the Ducks, Beavers, Huskies and Cougars. Four teams entered, two teams left with a good start to their regular season campaigns.
STORY #1: Oregon Surges In Second Half; Wins 79-66
Damyean Dotson had 21 points, and E.J. Singler scored 15 to go with nine rebounds as the Ducks (12-2, 1-0 in Pac 12) toppled the Oregon State Beavers in Corvallis on Sunday.
Ahmad Starks scored 22 for the Beavers, who led the Ducks by six at the half. The Ducks turned it on to start the second half, with a 15-2 run to take a lead they would not relinquish. The Beavers (10-4, 0-1) rallied to within six with three minutes to play on a driving layup by Starks, but the Ducks scored the next six, punctuated by a Arsalan Kazemi dunk to put the game out of reach. Kazemi had eight points and eight rebounds off the bench for the Ducks, who shot 49 percent from the field as a team.
Roberto Nelson had 18 for the Beavers, and Eric Moreland led the team with nine rebounds.
STORY #2: Washington Handles Washington State, 68-63
There are games when one team beats another, and others where one teams beats themselves. This was one of the latter.
Washington State shot just 37 percent from the field and 25 percent from three-point range as the Huskies took care of business in Pullman. C.J. Wilcox had 18 points, and Aziz N'Diaye ended with a 14 point, 10 rebound game to lead the attack from Washington (9-5, 1-0), who started the game on a 21-4 run.
Mike Ladd led the Cougars (9-5, 0-1) with 16 points, but did it on just 4 of 12 shooting. Brock Motum had 15 points, but only had five rebounds, his second lowest total of the season. The other three Cougars starters combined to shoot just 22 percent.
Scott Suggs had 11 points, and Andrew Andrews scored 8 points off the bench for the Huskies.
