Pac-12 Men’s Basketball Yearly Awards

Beasley_Weed

While the Pac-12 has been dominating the gridiron over the past few years, basketball has been falling by the wayside.  Arizona ran away with the conference title, and no other team in the conference was ranked going into yesterday.  However, several teams showed late season promise and poise.  Oregon toppled Arizona to finish conference play with eight straight wins.  UCLA, Colorado and Arizona State will all have a chance to make the NCAA Tournament with strong showings in the Pac-12 Tournament.

These are my Pac-12 Regular Season awards for First Team and Second Team All-Conference.

FIRST TEAM:
Center:
Jordan Bachynski (Sr), Arizona State
From start to finish, no one was a more dominating defensive force than Backynski.  The 7'2 senior averaged a stunning 4.2 blocks per game, the best mark in the nation.  Combined with his rebounding (8.4 per game, sixth in the conference) and even a scoring touch (11.2 points per game), Bachynski proved to be a force for the Sun Devils this season.

Forward: Kyle Anderson (So), UCLA
No one in the Pac-12 exemplified all around play like Anderson, who averaged 15 points per game scoring while also finishing in the top ten in the conference in rebounds and steals and leading the Pac-12 in assists.

Forward: Josh Huestis (Sr), Stanford
A preseason Pac-12 player of the year candidate, Huestis had another strong campaign, finishing with 11.2 points per game, as well as fifth in the Pac-12 in rebounds and fourth in blocks.

Guard: Roberto Nelson (Sr), Oregon State
While the Beavers found themselves short-handed for most of the year, Nelson proved to be the most consistent scorer in the Pac-12, leading the conference at 20.8 points per game.  Nelson failed to reach double-figures in scoring just once all season, when he only played eight minutes versus Towson.

Guard: Delon Wright (Jr), Utah
Wright was a do-it-all star for the Utes all season long, averaging 16.1 points per game (9th in conference) while shooting an astounding 58 percent from the field, a ludicrous number for a guard.  Wright also finished fourth in assists and tied for twelfth in rebounds.

SECOND TEAM
Center:
Kaleb Tarczewski (So), Arizona
Second in Pac-12 in scoring and rebounding amongst centers.  Defensive leader of the 6th best defense in the nation (58.7 points allowed per game).

Forward: Richard Solomon (Sr), California
Conference leader in rebounds, sixth in field goal percentage, seventh in blocks, only Pac-12 player to average a double-double (11.2 points, 10 rebounds per game).

Forward: Josh Scott (So), Colorado
Averaged 14.5 points and 8.8 rebounds per game.  Top ten in the Pac-12 in scoring, assists, field goal percentage, and blocks.

Guard: Chasson Randle (Jr), Stanford
Third in the Pac-12 in scoring (18.8 points per game).  Top ten in conference in 3-point percentage.  Shot Almost 50% from the field.

Guard: Jahii Carson (So), Arizona State
Second in the Pac-12 in scoring, sixth in assists.  Shot 44% from the field, 40% from 3-point range.

HONORABLE MENTION

Aaron Gordon (Fr), Arizona
C.J. Wilcox (Sr), Washington
Joseph Young (Jr), Oregon
D.J. Shelton (Sr), Washington State
