Call this a fringe move and a net positive.
The Indiana Pacers acquired former Slam Dunk champ Jeremy Evans from the Dallas Mavericks for the rights to Stanko Barac. The Pacers also got some cash and the rights to Turkish forward Emir Preldzic.
This was the Pacers’ fifth offseason move, with the first four being: 1. Jeff Teague for George Hill; 2. Thaddeus Young for the 20th pick; 3. Georges Niang with the 50th pick; and 4. Al Jefferson for 3 years, 30m).
Evans is 6’0″, athletic and a veteran at 28 years of age. His career averages are 3.5 points and 2.6 rebounds, meaning he’s going to have a tough time cracking the rotation.
Even with the acquisition, the Pacers still have around 9m left in cap space, but their roster would be at the 15-player max if they sign 2nd round pick Georges Niang as expected.
Personally, I would like to see them use that cap space by renouncing someone, probably the non-guaranteed contact of Shayne Whittingon (sorry, guy). The question is who is still out there to snatch at 9m a year?
