Remember the time when everyone thought AJ Price was a nice guy, but not good enough to be a third-string guard for a championship contender?
Well he’s become the Pacers’ savior now. Signed on Nov. 6 to fill up all the holes in the Pacers’ decimated roster — and only after plans to sign Gal Mekel were dumped due to visa problems — Price carried the team down the stretch, hitting big shot after big shot to lead the Pacers to a 97-86 victory. He finished the game with 22 points on 8-12 shooting, including 3-4 from outside.
The Jazz appear better than what most experts have them pegged at for the season (which is close to dead last in the league), but they’re not exactly a playoff team. That said, a win is a win and the Pacers will take whatever they can get right now. Recording just 7 turnovers after throwing the ball all over the place in the first 7 games of the season helped a lot.
Roy Hibbert scored 29 points, just a point off his career-high, and grabbed 5 rebounds. He was a force in the middle, and it’s good to see his offensive work with Kareem in the offseason paying off.
Solomon Hill continued his strong play and finished with 13 points, while Lavoy Allen impressed again with 12 points and 15 boards in just 27 minutes.
Next up, the 2-6 Pacers will take on the Heat in Miami on Wednesday. The Heat no longer have LeBron, but they’re looking very good early on with Chris Bosh and D-Wade stepping up their respective games.
