Jon Lester had his best start of the young season tonight. He pitched 5 2/3 scoreless innings, giving up four hits while striking out seven. He left the game with a three-run lead and the chance for his first win. David Ortiz got the offense going with his first home run of the season to opposite field in the second inning. The Orioles got back in the game with a two-run homer off of Bard in the seventh. They added one more in the eighth and tied the game. The Red Sox were able to take the lead when Ortiz walked to load the bases followed by the go-ahead run coming in when Beltre was also walked.
The O’s had the tieing run in scoring position with two outs in the ninth but Papelbon was able to strike out Julio Lugo to end the game.
