Papi Gets his 400th HR in Loss to A’s

The Sox ended their west coast trip by being swept by the Oakland A’s and once again they got tagged by former Sox players.  Well that and a missing offense.

Aaron Cook took the mound for the Sox and was coming off his best outing in a long, long time.  This time, Cook wasn’t as sharp and efficient.  Cook didn’t pitch poorly, but to win it looks like the Sox would have needed him to pitch like he did last time.  Cook gave up his first run in the 2nd with a solo HR to former Sox Brandon Moss.  Sox 0-1.  In the 6th, Cook gave up his 2nd run when Brandon Moss hit what should have been a fly out however no one on the Sox could see the ball and it fell right in between 3 players.  Brandon Inge hit an RBI single to score Moss.  In the 7th, Cook gave up the lead when he gave up a leadoff triple to Coco Crisp.  Cook was pulled by Boby V with Coco on 3rd and Andrew Miller ended up giving up an RBI single to Weeks to give the A’s the lead.  The game was finished by Albers, Padilla and then Morales.  Morales is still scheduled to pitch on Saturday, however they planned on him getting some work in on the mound instead of the bullpen.  Morales used 19 pitches to pitch 1.1 innings.  Not too shabby.

The Red Sox offense once again was struggling to put up runs.  The game was tied 1-1 in the 4th when David Ortiz made history and hit his 400th HR.  It was a no doubter off the bat.  Papi is continuing to show just why he is an All Star with how he has been at the plate this year.  The Sox went ahead in the game for a brief moment when Gonzo hit an RBI single in the 6th to score David Ortiz.  However, that is all the offense would have.  The lineup was without Dustin Pedroia…without Will Middlebrooks.  It was a lineup with rookie Mauro Gomez hitting 6th.  Gomez did hit a double in the 2nd inning for his first ever MLB hit.

The Sox are off on Thursday and then head home to face the Yankees 4 times in 3 days.  *crossing fingers*
