The Red Sox came into last night's game with Felix Doubront on the mound vs. the Mariners Aaron Harang. Doubront has shown in his last few starts why he's such an important piece of the rotation and last night would be no different. Doubront dominated the Mariners lineup while the Sox bats got him a nice lead to work with. One of those bats was David Ortiz who is now has the most hits of any DH in history.
The Sox offense got Doubront a lead in the 2nd when Salty and Iggy both hit sac flys. Sox 2-0. In the 3rd, the Sox went out to a 4-0 lead when David Ortiz hit a 2 run HR to right. Papi is so locked in at the plate right now, it's ridiculous. Ridiculously awesome. In the 4th the Sox added another run when Victorino hit an RBI single. Sox 5-0. In the 6th, the Sox basically put the game away when they went up 9-0. Ellsbury and Victorino both hit RBI singles, Ellsbury scored on a throwing error and then Papi got an RBI sac fly.
The Sox bats were getting it done and at the same time, so was Felix Doubront. He just kept rolling on and kept the Mariners off the scoreboard until the 7th inning. He looked like that dominant guy we saw for so much of the season last year. The only run Doubront gave up was an RBI single to Blanco in the 7th. Doubront's pitching line for the night was 107 pitches, 7 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 2 BB and 6 Ks. That is exactly the kind of outing that the Sox needed to see from Doubront. Brandon Workman who was just called up from AAA took the mound in the 8th. Workman gave up a leadoff HR to Ryan and also gave up RBI doubles to Morales and Smoak. Sox 9-4. Workman did get the outs he needed to get out of the 8th. The Sox bats got a couple of those runs back in the bottom of the 8th. Nava scored on a wild pitch and then Carp hit an RBI single. Sox 11-4. Workman pitched the 9th and had himself a nice 1-2-3 inning to notch down the win.
Red Sox 11 Mariners 4 BOXSCORE
WP: Doubront (6-3) LP: Harang (4-8)
