Papi Homers Twice….Again…in Sox Win!

<![CDATA[Felix Doubront took the mound and needed to have a rebound performance in order for the Sox to pull above .500 again. Doubront did exactly what the Sox needed him to and David Ortiz continued to punish his former team at the plate. Papi has hit 4 homeruns in the last two days at Target Field and seems in absolute beast mode.

The Sox gave Doubront a lead before he even took the mound. In the 1st inning the Sox grabbed two runs when Napoli hit an RBI groundout and Sizemore hit an RBI double. Sox 2-0. The Sox got two more runs in the 3rd inning when Papi hit his 1st homerun of the night and Grady Sizemore had an RBI single to score Napoli. Sox 4-0. Doubront gave up the only run of his outing in the 3rd inning when Joe Mauer hit an RBI sac fly to score Escobar. Sox 4-1. The Sox got that run right back in the 4th inning when Will Middlebrooks hit an RBI single to score Bogaerts. In the 6th David Ortiz came to the plate and lead off the inning with another homerun. That is 4 homeruns in the span of 2 days. If I was the Twins, I would just walk him each and every time he came to the plate. Sox 6-1. Pedey got in on the scoring in the 7th when he hit an RBI single to score Bogaerts. Sox 7-1.

The Sox offense was hitting early and often while Felix Doubront was pitching a pretty decent outing. Doubront got in trouble in a couple innings, but was able to get the outs when he needed to. He definitely looked like he belonged in the rotation and can be a dominant force. Doubront took the mound in the 7th inning, but when he had two batters on with one out, John Farrell came out to get him. Doubront's line for the night was 104 pitches, 6.1 IP, 7 H, 1 R, 1 BB and 5 Ks. Badenhop came in to finish off the inning and got the two outs by way of a double play.

Badenhop took the mound again in the 8th inning and ended up giving up a run with an RBI single from Nunez. Sox 7-2. In the top of the 9th the Sox added on to their commanding lead when AJ Pierzynski hit a 2 run RBI single to score Herrera and Carp. Edward Mujica took the mound in the 9th and continued to impress no one. Mujica gave up a 2 run homerun to Trevor Plouffe. Sox 9-4. Mujica got the 3 outs and the Sox left the field with an impressive victory.
