Papi Starts 3 Day Suspension

David Ortiz and the Red Sox received word from MLB about his suspension from the July 8th brawl against the Orioles.  Just in case you forgot, Ortiz charged the mound in the 8th inning after Gregg threw behind him 3 times and then taunted him when he was on the way to first base on a routine pop out.  Ortiz was initially given a 4 game suspension and he was appealing it.  Kevin Gregg was also given a 4 game suspension for his part in the incident.

Ortiz’s suspension was knocked down from 4 games to 3 and he will begin serving his suspension tonight.  Gregg’s suspension was also knocked down to 3 games.  Both players will not be able to play in the upcoming series between the Sox/Os and that’s probably not a bad thing.

For me, I have to say that I am happy that if he have to lose Papi’s bat out of the lineup, I am glad it is against the Orioles instead of a team like the Yankees.  I also am not unhappy to not have to see Kevin Gregg’s face during this series.
