Parker slowed by plantar fasciitis

Tony ParkerIf you’ve listened the last couple of episodes of the Spurscast, including the live post-game show from last night, we wondered if something was wrong with Tony Parker.

While he returned to his usual form against the Lakers, Mike Monroe and Jeff McDonald of the San Antonio Express-News say that plantar fasciitis is likely the reason behind his drastic drop across the board.

Asked why he has had occasional problems this season on drives to the basket, Parker volunteered the news about his injury.

“I’m a little bit slower, that’s why,” he said. “I don’t think it’s much different. It’s just my plantar fasciitis is killing me.”

Then, holding up a special sock designed to lessen the effects of the painful injury, Parker said he will play through the injury as long as he can.

The injury is particularly difficult for the three-time All-Star because he naturally jumps off his left foot.

After logging 34 minutes last night, look for Parker to have his minutes cut a bit tonight. George Hill should see more time, especially after his defensive performance against Kevin Durant the last time both teams met.

There seems to be a lot going around with Tony Parker lately, with the trade rumor, this injury and an imnterview he had with David Aldridge recently talking about how he was tired…and we still haven’t reached All-Star break.

That was the concern we had when Parker signed a long-term contract to play for the French National Team, and now those miles have started to add up. Hopefully this won’t affect Tony Parker for an extended time the way it did to Tim Duncan just a few seasons ago.

We’ll find out as much in April.
