Parker suffers thigh injury in Eurobasket

Though his team defeated Italy 91-84 on Sunday, San Antonio Spurs’ Tony Parker was injured in the victory according to a news wire report (H/T Spurs Nation) from ESPN.com

Parker was kneed in the left thigh by Andrea Bargnani on the second play of the game, struggled through the first half and part of the third quarter before leaving the game for good.

“I am going to have treatment on it tonight and see if I can play tomorrow,” Parker said. France plays Serbia on Monday. “The doctor said I should not take a risk in the fourth quarter.”

Parker and France are set to take on Serbia Monday before they have a day of rest to begin round two of the 2011 FIBA Eurobasket on Wednesday.

This was the risk Spurs fans and management worried about when players represent their home countries in international play. Along with Parker, Manu Ginobili (Argentina), Tiago Splitter (Brazil), and Cory Joseph (Canada) are among current and future Spurs representing their teams in different parts of the world in the Eurobasket and FIBA Americas tournaments.
