AT&T CENTER – Prior to the San Antonio Spurs’ game against the Washington Wizards, the Spurs announced point guard Tony Parker will sit out of the game with a left quad contusion injury.
“Tony’s out,” said Popovich. “The knee, same one.”
Parker has already missed six games this season with right knee soreness and rest on other occassions.
As for who will start in place of Parker against Washington, Popovich had this exchange with a reporter:
Reporter: “Who starts at point?”
Popovich: “Who do you want?”
Reporter: “Nico (Nicolas Laprovittola).”
Popovich: “Ok, I’ll start him.”
If you recall, Laprovittola started the Spurs’ previous game Wednesday at Dallas, in a move that was likely made to keep continuity on the Spurs’ bench with Patty Mills continuing to be a key piece off the Spurs’ bench unit.
Friday will mark Laprovittola’s 11th game played this season in 20 contests. Friday evening will also be Laprovittola’s first time this season playing with the other Spurs starters at the same time in Danny Green, Kawhi Leonard, LaMarcus Aldridge and Pau Gasol.
