Patriots Defend Gillette From Raiders in 2014 Home Opener

bskingsfinal

Good afternoon, Patriots fans! Well, what can I say? This game was plain BORING! Even though it was the home opener, I have never been so uninterested in watching a Patriots game. Thankfully they won so it wasn’t as bad. But the Oakland Raiders gave New England a tough fight so kudos to them…or maybe the Pats offense just didn’t want to try today.

The first quarter was all Oakland. They owned the possession and the Patriots offense was just playing poorly. But the Raiders only got a field goal from Sebastian Janikowski because the Pats defense was playing well. New England got their act together and after taking up most of the 2nd quarter, Tom Brady found Rob Gronkowski for a touchdown. Key catches by Julian Edelman helped the Pats move down the field on that drive. It almost looked like they would repeat this. New England was looking to score another touchdown as the 2nd quarter was coming to a close but a poor snap on 3rd down forced Stephen Gostkowski to kick a field goal. At the end of the first half, the Patriots lead the Raiders 10-3.

The 2nd half didn’t feature much action either. Both offenses were not playing well and I was honestly losing my patience. All we really saw were 2 field goals each from Janikowski and Gostkowski. The biggest moment pretty much came on the Raiders’ last possession. Deep inside Pats territory, Darren McFadden rushed for a touchdown. But it was called back because of holding. Later, Derek Carr’s pass intended for a receiver was deflected by Logan Ryan and right into the hands of BIG VINCE WILFORK! Seeing Wilfork get a pick made my day to be honest. That would be all! Your final score: Oakland Raiders 9 – New England Patriots 16!

So yeah, today was a really boring game. I almost fell asleep at some instances. But hey, a win’s a win. There’s some cause for concern because of the way the Patriots struggled against a team like the Raiders. No disrespect to their organization or fans but come on, it’s the Raiders!! Anyway, the Patriots will look to improve their offense next week as they will be playing Monday night in Kansas City against the Chiefs. But until then Patriots fans, take it easy! Everything is under control.
