Paul George staying with Indiana Pacers

Buffalo Sabres v New York Islanders

Per Adrian Wojnarowski and Marc J. Spears of Yahoo! Sports, the Indiana Pacers are finalizing a five year, $90 million plus maximum contract extension with forward Paul George.

Paul George was due for a big pay day and he got it! He deserved it as he helped take the Pacers to another level and all the way to Game 7 of the NBA Eastern Conference Finals. Also this past season he was voted as the NBA’s Most Improved Player. He definitely showed improvement as he scored 17 points per game in the regular season and 19.2 points per game in the postseason.

George’s extension won’t start until the 2014-15 season and will be making $3.2 million this upcoming season. Having Paul George back in the fold with the Pacers for many years to come makes him the franchise player and not Danny Granger. If you look back at the 2010 NBA Draft, all those teams that skipped over George are regretting it right now.

This summer, George played in the Team USA showcase and it seems like if he makes the team, he will be playing in 2014 World Cup of Basketball and possibly the 2016 Summer Olympics in Brazil. Sorry Laker fans, George is staying in Indiana as they are building a contender for a NBA title.
