Paul Konerko Leaves Message for Family in Infield Dirt

I’m not going to lie to you, I’m kinda glad the Paul Konerko retirement train left the station long after the Derek Jeter lovefest began.

Because after this last weekend of the baseball season, the longtime Chicago White Sox star’s final games have made me feel all the feels. Sox fan Chris Claeys returning Konerko’s 2005 grand slam ball, his new statue at U.S. Cellular Field…that “thank you” video to the fans.

But during his last game Sunday, Konerko did something Jeets never could.

Yeah, that’s right, during the first few innings (he was removed in the top of the sixth), Konerko spelled “Nick” and “Owen” for his sons and an “A” for daughter Amelia. Not to leave anyone out, he also included a “J” on for his wife Jennifer and a heart.

Now, I don’t know what’s better… that Konerko did what he did or the fact that no one messed it up. Seriously, they just left it there.  Pretty cool.

Now if you don’t mind…it’s getting a little dusty in here.
