Meet the Champions II, the second annual fundraising event to support the
Paulie Ayala Punching Out Parkinson's program.
Lone Star Park
Grand Praire, TX
25 January 2014
Two-time world boxing champion Paulie Ayala began training Parkinson's patients at his University of Hard Knock's gym in 2011. Based upon numerous medical studies that have shown great benefits of strenuous exercise to Parkinson's patients, Ayala developed his Punching out Parkinson's Program, a non-contact boxing technique, to improve and regain coordination, strength and balance while greatly improving the quality of life. This program is offered at no charge to Parkinson's patients
Paulie Ayala addressed the crowd about his passion for the program and its participants. Featured speaker "Terrible" Terry Norris spoke about his career and living with the effects of Parkinson's disease while fellow featured speaker Dewey Bozella gave a passionate speech detailing his life lessons to never give up in the face of adversity.
The evening included a car and cash raffle and silent auction. Local sports broadcaster Mike Doocy served as master of Ceremonies and the WBC's Deborah Hawkins presented awards to Ayala, Norris and Bozella for their charitable efforts.
