The news broke so quickly after the Pirates loss tonight that it must have been decided pretty well in advance: Pedro Alvarez will be a Pittsburgh Pirate tomorrow night. I still mean everything I said this morning about the steep learning curve, but let’s be honest with ourselves here: The only things worth watching on the Pirates right now are Jose Tabata, Neil Walker, Andrew McCutchen, and maybe Garrett Jones. Adding Pedro Alvarez to the mix makes one more element that’s worth watching night in and night out.
More on this tomorrow. For now, enjoy the night. It’s the closest we’ll get to Christmas Eve as Pirate fans for at least a couple years.
