The injury is a strained abdominal muscle and not an oblique injury like originally thought.
The team dodged a bullet with Pedroia having a strained abdominal muscle rather than an oblique, “which really had us concerned,” said Francona. “The good news is it’s not an oblique. That originally had us scared so we’re relieved about that.”
Francona said “I don’t think it will be terribly long” before Pedroia is back in action, and he sounded hopeful that it would resolve itself before the end of spring training. Three or four days of down time in order to have the injury settle down appears to be the short-term course of action for Pedroia.
