Well folks, the Philadelphia Phillies have a three game winning streak and have swept the Houston Astros in this quick two game series. This afternoon, the Phillies defeated the Astros 4-3. Jacob Diekman (1-0) got the win for the Phillies and the loss went to former Phillies pitcher Brett Myers (0-1) for the Astros.

In this game, the Phillies got a quick 2-0 lead as Brian Schneider hit a two run home run off of Astros pitcher Jordan Lyles in the second inning. Then, the Phillies increased their two run lead in the sixth inning with a Hunter Pence solo home run, which was his eighth of the season. On the mound, Cliff Lee had a great pitching performance as he went eight innings, gave up five hits, gave up one earned run, and struck out 10. The Astros clawed back and tied this game up in the ninth inning but then in the 10th inning, Hunter Pence hit a screaming, solo home run to win the game for the Phillies.

The Phillies, who now have a record of 18-19, will take their show on the road and play the Chicago Cubs in a quick two game set before an Interleague series begins on Friday versus the Boston Red Sox. Tomorrow night’s game will be at 8:05 pm and on the mound for the Phillies it will be TBA and for the Cubs it will be Matt Garza (2-1).
