With Jermaine Marshall transferring from the Penn State program, the university announced yesterday that guard Allen Roberts is joining the program from Miami (Ohio). Roberts, who is 6-foot-3, will be eligible to play immediately for the Nittany Lions because of the graduate transfer rule.
With that being said, he will have one season of eligibility remaining. With Roberts now added to the mix it looks like the Penn State Men’s Basketball program is starting to look like “Guard U.” In a statement, head coach Pat Chambers said about Roberts, “Allen is a strong, physical guard with a Big Ten body.” He also added “He is a good shooter and scorer, plays hard and brings great experience and a mature approach.”
Roberts can and will be a great addition to a Penn State squad that definitely took a step back last season. Don’t forget, the Nittany Lions do get fifth year senior Tim Frazier back, who was averaging 16.3 points per game last season before tearing his ACL four games into the season. Then you add the likes of now junior D.J. Newbill, who scored 16.3 points per game last season and the Nittany Lions look like a playmaker coming into next season.
Even with the likes of all these guards coming to play at Penn State it will be interesting to see how they all gel during the season, if they can gel well then the Nittany Lions could be looking at top five finish in the Big Ten conference next season.
