Penn State Class of 2016: WR Dae’lun Darien flips from Temple to Nittany Lions

ReplacementRefs

With National Signing Day just under 48 hours away, Penn State picked up some good news Monday morning. Wide receiver Dae’lun Darien announced via Twitter he was committing to Penn State. He had previously been committed to Temple.

Darien is a three-star recruit according to the 247 Sports composite ranking. Darien was on Penn State’s campus on Friday for an official visit, which came a day after James Franklin and Sean Spencer paid him a visit at his home in Baltimore. An official offer from Penn State was extended earlier in the month. Nick Polak of Black Shoe Diaries, who always does a solid job covering the Penn State recruiting scene, notes Darien is a bit of a project at wide receiver but a multi-talented athlete. Projects are never a terrible thing, because the potential to build a solid option in the red zone can be worth the wait if needed.

Penn State’s Class of 2019 is now up to 19 projected players, with a little room still to fill if possible. Darien is the first wide receiver in the class, but this is also a position that appears ripe with young talent at the position so there is little reason to worry about depth at receiver with the Class of 2016. There are a couple of other offers on the tables for some receiver sin the Class of 2016, but it does not look as though any more will be accepted in the next couple of days (but hey, if Demetris Robertson wants to pull a complete stunner, that’d be cool).
