Penn State Fires Offensive Coordinator John Donovan

-3

Finally! Penn State has fired offensive coordinator John Donovan. He has been the main scapegoat for Penn State’s lack of success this year, with good reason. PSU finished the regular season with a record of 7-5, largely due to the full offense.

The Nittany Lions have a fantastic true freshman running back in Saquon Barkely, a very good receiver in Chris Godwin, and a highly rated quarterback in Christian Hackenberg. Somehow, their offensive stats are among the worst in college football. Penn State was ranked 101st in the FBS in scoring, 106th in rushing, 82nd in passing, and 108th in total offense. They’re also 125th in 3rd down conversions. All of those stats are out of 127 FBS teams.

We’re not sure who will replace John Donovan as Penn State’s offensive coordinator. James Franklin said he will do a nation wide search. James Franklin and offensive line coach Herb Hand both have experience as an offensive coordinator, so they should be able to handle the duties for the upcoming bowl game.
