Multiple reports have confirmed that Fordham head coach Joe Moorhead will be named the next Penn State offensive coordinator.
Moorhead, 42 years old, was the head coach at Fordham for four years and had a combined 38-13 record. He is a graduate of Fordham and is from Western Pennsylvania, and graduated from Pittsburgh Central Catholic, which is big for recruiting. Moorhead played quarterback for Fordham in the 90’s and is a great quarterbacks coach. Moorhead’s offensive ranks at Fordham over the past three years are as listed:
Passing: 3rd (2013), 4th (2014), 20th (2015)
Rushing: 70th (2013), 55th (2014), 42nd (2015)
Total offense: 7th (2013), 7th (2014), 19th (2015)
Points average: 38.5 PPG
As you can see, Joe is a passing type coach, which could have an impact on Christian Hackenberg if he returns next season. The rushing numbers may look concerning, but he’s never had a running back like Saquon Barkley and incoming recruit Miles Sanders.
Moorhead will most likely not be involved in the bowl game, but may start evaluating players. This seems to be a big time hire for Penn State.
