James Franklin’s three week stretch of dominating the recruiting trail has continued. This time its a 2018 recruit, 4 star wide out Justin Shorter.
Last night around 10PM, Shorter tweeted that he would be making his announcement at 11:30AM today, his finalists were Penn State, Virginia Tech, Rutgers, Pitt, and North Carolina.
This morning around 11:30 he tweeted this:
Shorter is from Monmouth Junction, New Jersey and attends South Brunswick high school. He held 16 offers, which included Miami, Michigan, North Carolina, Ole Miss, Pittsburgh, and Tennessee.
Shorter’s name doesn’t really fit him as he is a massive 6’4 210 pounds, which makes him a big target in the red zone and clutch situations. Shorter counters his height and large frame with explosive speed as his 4.56 40 time would show. He is at his best in the open field and can make a man miss very easily and take even the shortest of throws to the house for six.
Penn State offered the 4 star back in late April, and the junior visited in late July, but was unable to meet with coach Franklin, but did spend a lot of time with receivers coach Josh Gattis. In order to meet with Franklin, Shorter visited this past Wednesday and that sealed the deal.
Justin Shorter is the #69 player in the 2018 247Sports composite rankings and is the #8 wide receiver nationally, and the #3 player in the state of New Jersey in the 2018 cycle. He is the third commit in Penn State’s young, but talented 2018 class. He joins 4 star OL Chris Bleich and 5 star DE Micah Parsons. The class ranks 7th nationally according to 247Sports.
Shorter should be a big time player in Joe Moorehead’s offense, and is part of what could be a very special 2018 class.
Penn State might get more good news later today with 2017 3 star OL Desmond Holmes on campus.
