Penn State picked up their third verbal commitment of the month of April, and second in three days late Tuesday night. Chris Godwin, a consensus four-star wide receiver out of Delaware, has given a verbal to the Nittany Lions.
"I committed to Penn State," Godwin told Lions 247. "I think it came to me recently, I kind of realized that it was the best place for me. I feel real comfortable there with the coaching staff and I feel like that's my best opportunity to develop as a player and as a person.
Godwin participated in Penn State's junior day event in February and made an unofficial visit to the school earlier in April.
"As far as the commitment, I called Coach O'Brien and we talked for a little bit," told Lions 247. "I told him that I wanted to be a Nittany Lion and he got really excited. He said that it made his day."
Godwin also had offers from Boston College, Connecticut, Maryland and FCS power Delaware.
Godwin, a 6'-1" and 193 pound receiver, was named the Delaware Gatorade State Player of the Year in 2012 after hauling in 48 passes for 834 yards and 12 touchdowns. Last season he played on offense and defense to help Middletown High School win the state championship. At Penn State he will be put in the wide receiver mix and he could have an early impact at the position.
Godwin is the third wide receiver added to Penn State's Class of 2014 this month. North Carolina recruit DeAndre Thompkins, another four-star talent, committed to Penn State over the weekend and Pittsburgh recruit Troy Apke, a three-star prospect, added his verbal earlier this month.
Penn State currently has six players in the Class of 2014 on-board. Godwin is the second player from the state of Delaware, with Salesianum inside linebacker Troy Reeder being the other.
